DBeaver Community Edition is a free, JDBC-based database GUI that covers PostgreSQL, MariaDB/MySQL, SQLite, SQL Server, Oracle, and many more databases from one app.
Install¶
Fedora (RPM)¶
The RPM bundles its own Java runtime, so you don't need a separate JDK:
sudo dnf install https://dbeaver.io/files/dbeaver-ce-latest-stable.x86_64.rpm
Any distribution (Flatpak)¶
flatpak install flathub io.dbeaver.DBeaverCommunity
First connection¶
- Database → New Database Connection, pick the database type, and enter host, port, database, and user.
- The first time you use a database type, DBeaver offers to download its JDBC driver. Accept, because no drivers ship preinstalled.
- Click Test Connection before Finish.
Tips¶
- Avoid storing production passwords. Untick Save password on the connection page, or set a master password under Window → Preferences → General → Security. Saved credentials otherwise sit in the workspace's
credentials-config.json, protected only by a key built into DBeaver. - SSH tunnels are on the connection's SSH tab. You can reach a database that only listens on localhost without opening its port.
- Mark production connections. Set Connection type to Production so the editor is colour-coded and asks for confirmation before running changes.
