Deskflow lets one keyboard and mouse control several computers over the network. Move the pointer off the edge of one screen and it appears on the next. The clipboard is shared too. It's the free, open-source upstream project that Synergy is built on, and it runs on Linux, Windows, and macOS.
Install¶
Linux (Flatpak)¶
flatpak install flathub org.deskflow.deskflow
Recent Fedora releases also package it, so check with dnf info deskflow.
Windows / macOS¶
Download the installer from the GitHub releases page.
Set up¶
- Server: the computer whose keyboard and mouse you'll use. Choose Use this computer's keyboard and mouse (server), then open Configure server and drag each client's screen into position around the server's screen. Screen names must match the clients' names exactly.
- Clients: choose Use another computer's keyboard and mouse (client) and enter the server's IP address or hostname.
- Start the server, then the clients.
Firewall¶
The server listens on 24800/tcp. On a Fedora server:
sudo firewall-cmd --permanent --add-port=24800/tcp
sudo firewall-cmd --reload
Notes¶
- TLS is on by default. The first time a client connects, it shows the server's certificate fingerprint. Compare it with the fingerprint shown on the server before accepting. Keystrokes, including passwords, cross the network, so don't turn TLS off.
- Wayland support depends on the desktop's input portals and works on recent GNOME and KDE releases. On older desktops, or if input doesn't pass through, log in to an X11 session instead.
