Microsoft retired the native Teams client for Linux in December 2022. On Linux you have two options. On Windows and macOS, use the regular desktop app from Microsoft.

Option 1: Official web app (PWA)

The supported route. Use Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome/Chromium, which have the best Teams support for calls and screen sharing:

  1. Go to https://teams.microsoft.com and sign in.
  2. Install it as an app: in Edge, ⋯ → Apps → Install this site as an app. In Chrome, use the install icon in the address bar (or ⋯ → Cast, save, and share → Install page as app).

You get its own window, a launcher entry, and notifications.

Option 2: teams-for-linux (unofficial)

A community Electron wrapper around the Teams web app. It adds tray integration, custom backgrounds, and multiple accounts.

flatpak install flathub com.github.IsmaelMartinez.teams_for_linux

It isn't made or supported by Microsoft. If a work tenant restricts unmanaged clients, use the PWA.

Screen sharing on Wayland

Both options share screens through the desktop's screen-cast portal (PipeWire). If sharing shows a black screen, make sure xdg-desktop-portal plus the backend for your desktop (xdg-desktop-portal-gnome or -kde) are installed, then log out and back in.
